Wardrobe Essentials: The STRIPED BUTTON DOWN
PC: @sophiess
I’m thinking about starting a new series: The Wardrobe Essentials. Each “episode” will highlight a different item of clothing that serves as a must-have in your closet. And today, that item of clothing is a striped button down. Sure, I could go with the more common white button down, which certainly counts as an essential. But I believe stripes have more of a creative appeal and unique styling options. Not only that, but stripes are back in trend in 2025 and it would be a shame to miss out on an opportunity to add a little texture to your look.
I took a quick look at my closet and already noticed a few striped button downs hanging around — an old thrifted Ralph Lauren shirt and a silly little fitted H&M number I got for my first internship. Needless to say, these items have remained relevant over the years and continuously serve as functional wardrobe staples. No matter how much time passes, I still find comfort in these classics and therefore find them to be good investment pieces. So go ahead, spend a little extra on these high quality tops — I promise you’ll get a ton of wear out of them.
If you don’t already know, Frame is where all the celebs are buying their jeans. It comes to no one’s surprise that their tops are just as high quality.
A button down from Ralph Lauren is just a must-have. I have about three and their quality in unmatched.
Everything supermodel Elsa Hosk has created for her brand, Helsa, is a true work of art — just look at this fitted button down.
An oversized option is both chic and comfortable, and this gray-blue piece from Dissh fits the bill.
Everybody wants something from Italian label Comme Si, and if it’s not the cute boxer shorts or stylish pajama pants, then it’s got to be this striped button down.
Burgundy and red were hot colors in 2024, and you can expect them to remain closet staples for quite some time.
More from Helsa, this striped shirt dress has that borrowed-from-the-boys appeal that simply draws you in.
Beyond just dresses, Reformation makes reliable and quality tops too. I’m eyeing this green number at the moment.
I do love a good shirt from Banana Republic. All of their pieces always balance well between price, quality, and durability.
