Perspective: You Are Not Required to be Part of THE HUSTLE CULTURE
Dolce far niente.
It means “the sweetness of doing nothing”.
Something that nowadays feels completely taboo, or labeled as “lazy”.
We live in a world where we glorify the boss woman, a hustle culture, waking up at 5:30AM and getting a shit-load done before even getting in that first sip of coffee (particularly if you live in NYC).
Don’t get me wrong, most successful entrepreneurs are up before everyone, work the whole day, and find tons of success doing it. Productivity is a fine thing and I absolutely praise it.
But hey! Not everyone wants to be a successful entrepreneur. You are not required to desire huge success or being the boss. If a small simple life living by the field where your greatest worries are whether the flowers will bloom in time is all you desire, then that’s fine. We are not all meant to live the hustle life.
_________
I know so many people who simply cannot sit still. When I say “let’s sit out for coffee and relax a little”, they look at their watch and say “Okay, is 20 minutes enough?”.
That, my dear, is not relaxing. And quite frankly it makes me a bit sad.
There seems to be a rush to the finish line but we’re forgetting the view. Life is right now. Are you able to quietly absorb your surroundings? Did you really taste that pasta? Can you hear your own thoughts? Or is there a podcast on self-improvement playing in the background?
Somehow I still end up where I want to be without the faintest bit of hurry in my feet. Nothing in my life goes unappreciated, and I live the exact life I want to live. I take my sweet time in the morning, and I’ll drink wine at 1pm on a Tuesday.
Going slow allows whatever vision you do have to really sink deep into your soul. It marinates into your blood, and allows your mind and body to wholeheartedly face the direction you desire. When you are ready, you march one step at a time and take in every lesson on the way.
To conclude this message, here’s a cute little reel by that feels relevant to my point.
Thank you.
Stop and smell the roses.
Take the long way home
