Welcome to the first of a new series I’m coining: Worth The Splurge.

As you may have guessed, this new column will highlight a few fashion favorites which, albeit their pricier tag, are worth the investment. If all things go well, a new roundup will be released seasonally, and we’re kicking the lovely year off with our first ever Spring edition! So, if you’ve been wondering which designer pieces are worth the splurge and which you’re simply going to end up reselling at the RealReal, this is your chance to get a better understanding.

Since this is the first of the series, let’s get into all the criteria and how I am making my decisions. Each piece is going to be judged based on their wearability (and cost-per-wear), material quality, and longevity of style. Some might be praised for being unique one of a kind pieces, while others hold a spot in the hall of fame and could be considered a collectible.

Popular or trendy designer pieces are going to get a stricter investigation, seeing that trends typically burn out and fizzle after all that heat. That being said, what was once popular has a tendency to gain value again in the future in the form of vintage pieces, and for that reason I am not cutting them out of consideration.

Many of the selected pieces have been personally handled at either the store or in my possession, so that I can make an educated decision on what is worth the splurge.

Everyone wants either the Miu Miu slingback heels or their micro skirts, and while those are certainly cute purchases, I’ve been eyeing this bag. It has that Japanese school girl bag aesthetic which for me simply feels timeless.

Ralph Lauren in itself is a timeless brand that never fails to look chic or classic. And while you’ll certainly do well by purchasing a cap or a cable knit sweater, having a tote like this says you’re well acquainted with the brand and love them beyond just their popular styles.

When it comes to outerwear, you know Max Mara is going to deliver. A camel coat is a fine purchase, but because this is a Spring roundup, I’m going to highlight this unique fitted blazer. It stands out from the masses with its slit sleeves and chest pocket.

I can’t stop thinking about the Frame x Ritz collaboration, and after inspecting it at their Soho store I can only say it’s better than advertised. The cashmere knit simply oozes casual elegance and it’s exactly the kind of sweater I hope to one day board a plane with a first class ticket in.

She seems like a simple dress, but there’s something about the floor-length hem, the A-line skirt, and open back (not to mention material) that screams sophistication here. It’s the kind of dress you can wear over and over and feel fabulous each time with zero effort.

For a more special occasions dress, this Zimmerman piece is ready to turn some heads. The fitted bodice and A-line skirt might be nothing new, but the petals draping down the straps and the waist make this a one of a kind masterpiece.

I’ve been really into Tod’s lately. Sure, there are tons of ballerina shoes on the market right now, but none have made me gasp with delight as these have. The leather was evidently higher end, and the single “T” logo added a touch of texture to the shoe.

Last and possible the most?? These Louis Vuitton slingback heels. To say I am obsessed is an understatement. She’s elegance and class with a touch of edginess. Pumps will never go out of style and a sleek design like this will continue to catch eyes for decades to come.
