The Vintage Inspired Clasp Purse Is One of 2025’s BIGGEST BAG TRENDS

“You’re a bag girl, aren’t you?” someone said to me at a New York Fashion Week after party. I was stunned — not because they were right, but because I have no idea how they figured that out. It’s not like I have a wide range of designer bags to show off (to my dismay). I typically rotate through the same three bags I hold dearest to my heart, and only dream about owning the latest The Row Margaux or designer tote the minute they come out.
For now, though, the best I can do is sit behind my computer and keep my eyes peeled on the latest bag trends. Luckily New York Fashion Week has given me lots to marinate over, with Calvin Klein making a return to the NYFW lineup and Coach leaning more and more into its Gen Z audience (I guess no one’s surprised to see their bags adorned with big personality keychains.) And while I can talk about the ongoing east to west bag trend or the clutches that the models cling onto during their catwalk, none of these are necessarily “new” for 2025. Instead, my eyes were twinkling at the rising trend I spotted on the fall/winter runways, and that’s vintage-styled clasp purses.
I’m talking sleek, simple, clasp purses that look like they belong on the arms of the most extinguished lady. To be fair, it’s not a completely new trend; Khaite’s Cate Bag is evidence that the style has been on the rise already since last season.
What sets these bags apart is the top closure — instead of a zip, button, or fold over flap, you are met with a clasp that snaps shut. You’ve probably seen them countless of times at little vintage stores but never quite felt the pull to purchase one. Well, the time has come for these ladylike pouches to hold some space in your closet, because we’ve now seen them at Calvin Klein’s great runway return as well as Jacquemus’ show earlier in Paris. Staud showcased its own version at their latest collection reveal as well.
The style definitely feeds into the quiet luxury appeal. It’s a testament to the fact that classic designs never truly go out of style, and while they may spend a couple decades collecting dust on a shelf, the time will come for the bag to shine again. So if you’re looking to invest in a new bag in 2025, let it be this vintage-inspired clasp purse.
