The 8 Best Last Minute Summer Trips To Take

There’s a lot of talk around town that fall is beginning. Let me be clear: fall is not here yet. Fall starts September 23rd. We’ve got almost an entire month of summer left so miss me with that nonsense. Don’t get me wrong, I love Autumn for all its colors, promises of change, and crisp air. I just love summer more and am not that eager to give it up until I really must. With one month left, this is the time I go through my end-of-summer checklist and make sure I get the most out of this fleeting season. Number six on that list says to book a last-minute trip with your friends — one last huurah before we kiss sun-soaked days goodbye, if you will. But I never specified which places to visit that are budget-friendly and still hot in September. While certain cities (like Stockholm or Montreal) might already be cooling down, other cities allow you to get a few more wears out of that sundress or squeeze a couple extra beach visits in.

Taking into consideration that you’ve probably already spent a considerable amount of your budget in the height of the summer season, I decided to look into flights and destinations (near and far) that are more affordable at this time. Some cities have already gone through their peak season and are therefore more attainable now. Check out each of the cities to visit down below.

The Hamptons, New York

If you missed the opportunity to go to the Hamptons during its peak season, you’re in luck. The prices significantly go down after Labor Day weekend, allowing you to enjoy a quieter, more budget-friendly stay in the beloved Hamptons.

Newport, Rhode Island

If you’ve gone to the Hamptons over and over again, then try Newport, Rhode Island instead. I make it a point to go there at least once a year—there’s nothing like sipping cold wine while watching the sun go down over the ocean!

Austin, Texas

I almost booked a flight to Austin, Texas this year—it’s been rising higher up on my bucket list.

Mexico City, Mexico

I’ve been to Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Cancun quite often, but haven’t made my way to Mexico City yet. A shame, truly, as the culturally rich city doesn’t lack beautiful scenery and cute coffee shops.

Oahu, Hawaii

You’d be surprised how affordable the flights to Oahu are outside of their peak season. If you want a tropical vacation that boasts both ocean and mountain views, this is the place to go.

Costa Rica

What doesn’t Costa Rica have? Tropical temperatures, beautiful views, and tons of unique animals roaming around. You truly enter a different world here.

Charleston, South Carolina

You can both surf and sip your way through Charleston. While many people are enjoying the beaches and the quaint town, I’m really looking forward to seeing the famous trees!

Madrid, Spain

If you wanna hop the big pond, then make your way to Madrid! It’s not as crowded as Barcelona or any of the big Italian cities, yet remains warm through October and has an infectious energy.
