Here’s Your Guide To Writing a Kick-Ass NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION

It’s that time of the year again guys. I know there’s a weird stigma around new year’s resolutions… something about promises never kept… but I have to disagree. Having that one time a year to stop, reflect, and breathe before moving forward is vital. And in order to move forward, you want to know where you are moving to, don’t you?

I’m a huge believer in visualization and manifestation. I kid you not when I say everything I ever wanted, I got, and everything I still want, I know will come to me. But in order for it to come to me, I have to define what “it” is. And that’s what new year’s resolutions are good for. We lay down the tracks for the future so our train can go exactly where it should.

I just wrote my new year’s resolutions, and I feel like a brand new person already. For anyone a little wonky and unsure how to even start writing down your thoughts and plans, I put together a simple guideline on how to get started.

Step 1: Set the mood

It’s so important to set the mood right! Clean your room, light some candles, turn on the warm lights, and get comfortable. If you live with other people, let them know you need an hour to yourself, and play some soft music as you begin to write down your big plans.

Step 2: Reflect on the year passed

Before we jump into the new year, let’s first look back at the year that just passed. What were some wins? What were some losses? What could have gone better and what went excellent? Did you achieve what you set out to achieve the year before? Be nice to yourself in this stage. Remember life is just a game and you’re just doing your best every day. There’s no need for you to be hard on yourself. Look back and pat yourself on the back, shake hands with the year, and give it a good kiss goodnight.

Step 3: Follow these prompts

If you’re new to writing, staring at a blank page can feel intimidating. I’m sure there’s a lot to sort through in your mind, and organizing it can feel daunting. I want you to categorize your plans into the following:

  1. Romance

  2. Relationships

  3. Health

  4. Personal Projects

  5. Travel

  6. Work

In each category, write down what you want to happen in the next 12 months. How do you see your relationships changing? Do you have any room for improvement where your health is concerned? How are your personal projects coming along? Where do you want to travel to? Are you on the right track with your career?
