The Year Of The BRAND MAKEOVERS

PC: Tory Burch

By now, I’m sure you’ve made the same observation I have: all the OG brands are making a comeback. You’ve seen it with Coach, with Abercrombie & Fitch, and even Gap (the last of which may be credited to Anne Hathaway and Anne Hathaway alone). The more I look around, the more I notice that many of the classic brands — once über-popular, then fallen-from-grace — are suddenly jumping back into trends again. I covered this in more depth with J.Crew and Banana Republic, but then realized it would be more efficient to just gather them all here in one article.

I have to say, I’m quite excited to see these brands shedding old layers and embracing what’s current. Times, trends, and tastes are changing rapidly, and if you want to be one of the brands that survive for centuries, letting go of what once worked and reinventing yourself is the way to go. That could mean getting a new creative director, a new logo, a complete 180 change in style or all of the above. I’m highlighting some of the brands that made a drastic change to their branding to applaud their efforts and acknowledge their hard work. It’s scary to let go of something that was working for so long. Who is to know whether this rebrand would improve their image, or cause a fatal downfall? Let’s just say the brands I’m about to highlight now were very successful in their rebrand. It’s exciting to get to re-love some of our favorite brands from the 90’s and early 2000’s, seeing them reclaim their glory days in a new and refreshed way.
