The Best Ski Resorts In America
Not to sound like a spoiled brat, but whenever my family would go skiing, we’d go straight to Europe. No, it’s not because we were bougie. It’s because it was cheaper that way—we’re Austrian and have family right in the middle of the alps. We’d stay (for free) at our cousin’s house and drive the three minutes it took to get to the first gondola, where a week’s ski ticket was about the same cost as a day ticket anywhere in America.
For that reason I don’t have a ton of experience skiing in the U.S., except the occasional visit to Vermont or Hunter mountain. That doesn’t mean I can’t do a good amount of research, or take advice from my snowboard-loving roommates. It seems like there are plenty of beautiful ski resorts in America worth visiting. From Utah to Colorado and New Hampshire, these scenic ski resorts offer a wintery getaway perfect for the thrill-seeking (and hot cocoa-sipping) couple. Whether you’re going to rip down a mountain or simply enjoy the aprés ski ambiance, these are the best ski resorts in America.

“I really like Brighton for three reasons: 1) Its trails — there are a lot of trees and terrain parks. 2) It’s in a prime location (20 minutes to Salt Lake City) and 3) It’s open until late at night so you can get a lot of hours in.” - Cumulus, an avid snowboarder.

“Breckenridge is huge so there are usually a lot of quieter areas with shorter lines and lots of snow”

“Jay Peak always gets way more snow than other east coast resorts. They also have fun trails in the trees, and not many people go there.”
