The Best Destinations FOR SOLO TRAVEL

Have you been flirting with the idea of solo travel? I truly have nothing but great things to say about it. Aside from not having to compromise your travel plans, solo travel allows you to have all your senses fully concentrated on the sights, smells, and sounds around you. It’s an opportunity to relationship build with yourself (the most important relationship you’ll carry throughout your life, might I add), and completely move at your own pace. In my lifetime, I must have been to over 40 cities by myself, and I credit a lot of my confidence and self love to these experiences. There’s just nothing like waking up to a beautiful view, brewing a hot cup of coffee, and journaling in the morning sun before strolling through a town you’ve never seen before. There’s no haste in your feet, and no limitations to the mind. You’re fully there to all the inspiration pouring into your soul, and it feels glorious.

So, now that I’ve convinced you to go solo, you’re wondering where to? The honest answer is, I haven’t been to a city where solo travel was even remotely uncomfortable. BUT, there are some cities I visited twice and had more fun going with a friend or a partner than alone (like Bali). So, the following cities are great cities to visit alone if this is your first time booking it solo.

Porto, Portugal

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Porto is the ideal city for book lovers and introverts. It’s small enough to not overwhelm you, but wildly beautiful that it will leave a lasting impression. Time moves slowly here, so you can fully enjoy every peaceful moment to yourself.

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos

I recently visited Turks and Caicos by myself, and was amazed how easy everything flowed. Not only is it the most safe country in the Caribbean, but it’s easy to get around, relaxing, and filled with kind people.

Madrid, Spain

Madrid holds a very special place in my heart. It’s an exciting city with great weather, tons to do, and beautiful people. There’s history and art and breathtaking sunsets. You definitely won’t be bored here!

Vienna, Austria

I have to give it to my hometown, Vienna, for being one of the best places to stroll around solo. The “small” city is rich with beautiful (and clean) architecture, as well as history and art. We’ve got music halls and endless amounts of museums to get lost in.

Ubud (Bali), Indonesia

While certain areas in Bali are more fun with people (think Canggu or Kuta), Ubud makes more sense for the solo travelers. It’s the place you go when you want to get lost in rainforests after engaging in a soulful yoga session. It’s easy to meet likeminded people here as well!

Melbourne, Australia

If you don’t mind the long flight, Melbourne is worth visiting solo as well. The land down under is extremely unique, familiar yet different, and there’s always phenomenal coffee just around the corner.
