Here’s Why You Should Dress Up When YOU’RE JUST CHILLING AT HOME

When lockdown first started, the internet was abuzz with advise on how to effectively work from home. On the older version of this blog, I too gave advice on best remote practices, having been a freelancer and working from home for some time already. One of those key pieces was: get dressed.

Here we are, three years later, and the lot of us are still working remotely to some degree. But I think we’ve resorted back to working from our couches in our sweats. I’m here to tell remind you: get dressed in your cutest outfit. Why? The obvious answer is it makes you feel much more put together, taking your mind out of “lounge” state and bringing it to “active” state, making work a lot more efficient.

But let’s forget the remote work thing for a second. You should be strutting around looking like a ten whether you’re doing your corporate girly thing at home or not. We as people get so much identity from how we dress, whether you notice it or not. To those (typically men) that say they “DoN’t CaRE abOuT clOthEs” I always argue: “okay, wear a dress then. See how out of body you feel when you walk around in something that does not represent you.” Now if you take advantage of that, and wear something that does reflect your personality, you inherently begin to feel good. When you’re feeling down or tired, getting dressed can trick your mind into thinking “hey! I actually feel good!”.

There’s also simply something so glorious about prancing around the house in a skirt, watering the flowers and journaling and what not. Mundane moments can be turned into feel-good ones. It’s a form of self care, if you ask me. Every passing of the mirror reminds you that you have your shit together.

And at the very least, when a surprise package arrives at the door, you at least don’t need to go open it looking like you’ve just woken from a three year slumber with a bird nest on your head (been there).
